Andrea Case (cello)

  • M. Mus., McGill University
  • An avid chamber musician, Andrea is sought after as an orchestral musician, coach, recording artist and teacher and has played with orchestras in Europe, Japan, California, Quebec and Alberta.

Andrea Case has a Master’s Degree in cello performance from McGill University where she studied on scholarship with Antonio Lysy. She spent her childhood in Calgary where she studied with John Kadz at the Mount Royal Conservatory. She made her solo debut with The Calgary Civic Symphony in 1997 after winning the Calgary Concert Competition.

Andrea is co-founder and cellist of the Lily String Quartet, a group that has performed concerts across Canada and for CBC Radio 2. As well as being an avid chamber musician, Andrea is sought after as an orchestral musician, coach, recording artist and teacher. Andrea has played with orchestras in Europe, Japan, California, Quebec and Alberta. She can be heard on numerous recordings in the classical, jazz, folk and pop genres.

Andrea has 10 years of teaching and coaching experience from Mount Royal Conservatory and Amici String Program, both in Calgary. She has adjudicated at festivals throughout Alberta and British Columbia, and teaches at the Amici summer programs as well as the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp.

Andrea currently resides in Toronto with her husband, jazz drummer Karl Schwonik and their son.


Peter DeSotto (violin, Professional School)

  • Soloist, Chamber musician, Orchestral musician, Opera, Musical Theatre, Studio musician, Collaborator.
  • Peter founded the group Quartetto Gelato in 1992 and is still actively performing with the group today.
  • In 1999 Peter was voted musician of the year by the Toronto Musicians Association.

Peter was in the scholarship program and the Orchestral Training Program at the Royal conservatory of Music, The Banff Centre Winter Cycle, and was also a scholarship student at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Peter's principle violin teachers include Steven Staryk, David Zafer, Larry Shapiro and Leornard Sorkin of the Fine Arts String Quartet. Peter's singing teachers have included Angela Hawaleshka, Gary Relyea, Mark Dubois, Louis Quilico, and Marilyn Niska. He has performed professionally in lead roles in opera, appeared as soloist with orchestras and has collaborated with many prominent ensembles.

Peter won his job with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at age 24 and has performed with the Symphony for over 11 yrs. In 1999 Peter was voted musician of the year by the Toronto Musicians Association.

Peter founded the group Quartetto Gelato in 1992 and is still actively performing with the group today. Quartetto Gelato has recorded 8 cd's and has sold over 150,000 units to date. QG has performed in Europe, China, Japan, Korea, across Canada and the USA. QG has been the featured soloist's with major orchestra's across Canada and the USA. Their music was used in the box office hit "Only You" starring "Robert Downey Junior", and "Marisa Tome". QG's music was taken to outer space aboard the space shuttle by astronaut Robert Thirsk.

Awards have included "NPR's", young performer of the year and "The Indies" best classical ensemble of 2009. QG has been nominated for two Gemini's and a Juno. Their DVD "Music in Wine Country" was repeatedly played on PBS and CBC Television. They are heard regularly on classical 96.3 and CBC radio.


Zoe Henderson (piano, viola)

  • B.A. Drama (Honours); A.R.C.T. (Piano)
  • Currently studying for her Masters in Music Therapy
  • Extensive work with professional children’s theatre as playwright, composer, lyricist, pianist, director and producer.

Zoe is a musician with many varied interests and talents. She is currently working towards her ARCT diploma in piano, and is an advanced student of the viola. She's also pretty handy with the baritone ukelele! In addition to her musical activities, Zoe has a B.A. (Honours) in Drama and has worked extensively in the professional children's theatre as a playwright, composer, lyricist, pianist, director, teacher and producer. She is currently taking a Master's degree in Music Therapy at Wilfred Laurier University.


Ivana Popovic (violin)

  • B. Mus; currently completing her degree in Holistic Health Studies
  • Teaching violin since 1997, Ivanna is a firm believer that having fun is just as important as any aspect of performance.
  • A founding member of The Sunrise Quartet, she has performed with several orchestras including the Hamilton Symphony, Oshawa Symphony and Celebrity Symphony.

Ivana obtained her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Veljko Vlahovic in Podgorica, Montenegro. She has performed with several orchestras including the Hamilton Symphony, Celebrity Symphony and Oshawa Symphony. She is the founding member of the Sunrise String Quartet with whom she performs several concerts a year, including educational concerts. Recently, Ivana has been focusing on chamber music including performing and coaching various string quartets, as well as improvising with several world music ensembles.

Ivana has been teaching violin since 1997, and believes that having fun with the instrument is an important aspect of the learning process. She is also currently completing her degree in Holistic Health Studies.


Linnea Thacker (violin)

  • Has performed as a soloist as well as in many ensembles, ranging from orchestras and string quartets to jazz and folk groups.
  • In all her teaching, Linnea aims to nurture a love for and enjoyment in making music.

A native of Thunder Bay, violinist Linnea Thacker has performed as a soloist and in a variety of ensembles, ranging from orchestras and string quartets to jazz and folk groups. In 2010, Linnea became a founding member of the Toronto-based Ton Beau Quartet, performing within the GTA and as far as California. In an orchestral setting, Linnea was a member of the 2007 National Youth Orchestra of Canada and has performed with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Linnea’s varied performing experience has included fiddling, giving her opportunities to perform at folk festivals including the Marathon Music Festival, Trout Forest Music Festival, and Winnipeg Folk Festival as well as a tour of Cape Breton.

In addition to her performing experience, Linnea has taught violin, theory, and yoga privately as well as in group settings. Linnea has also served as strings director at the Ontario Mennonite Music Camp since 2009. In her private teaching, which she began in 2002, she has worked with students with interests in both classical and fiddle music. In all her teaching, Linnea aims to nurture a love for and enjoyment in making music.

Linnea recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Music, studying with Annalee Patipatanakoon. Previous studies include an undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University where she studied with Jeremy Bell and Stephen Sitarski. Linnea has received a number of awards and as a winner of the Wilfrid Laurier University Concerto Competition in 2008, Linnea performed as a soloist with the WLU Symphony Orchestra.


Robin Wenglewick (violin, viola)

  • Currently in 4th year of performance at U of T
  • Has held the Principal Violist position with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra, Assistant Violist with the Wilfrid Laurier University Symphony Orchestra and currently plays with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
  • Enjoys teaching, sharing her love of music, and doing puzzles.

Robin began her musical studies at the age of nine at Parkdale Public School. She has participated in the All City Orchestra, All City String Ensemble, and the Toronto Music Camp from 1988-1991. In 2002 she began her studies on the viola and has never looked back.

Robin has participated in various music fesivals as the Scotia Festival, Quartetfest, Southern Ontario Chamber Music Institute, and the North American Viola Institute to name a few. Robin has held the Principal Violist position with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra, Assistant Viola with the Wilfrid Laurier University Symphony Orchestra and has participated in various community orchestras, quartets, chamber groups, and has even recorded with mainstream musicians. Currently she plays with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Robin has been awarded the Parry Michael Zehr Memorial Scholarship, the E. Alveretta Henderson Award for 'Demonstrated Leadership Qualities' & 'Improved Musical Development’, the Walter Homburger Scholarship, and is the two-time recipeint of the Kathleen Parlow Scholarship.

When Robin is not busy with her academic and performing commitments she enjoys teaching, sharing her love of music, and doing puzzles.

Robin is currently in her fourth year as a performance student at the University of Toronto, studying with Katharine Rapoport. For the future, Robin's focus and determination are going to ensure that she makes significant contributions in the musical world.
